Smoking Ribs


Many people love smoking ribs in their free time or on weekends, as this is one outdoor activity, which can provide you a nice dinner to cherish. You can start with choosing the kind of ribs. You can opt for country style or baby backs, as these are really good. You can try the minimally processed ribs, as they are generally not injected with any kind of solution. However, if you have limited choices, then you should go with what you prefer. Once you have chosen the ribs, then you can move ahead with removing the membrane.

Cooking the ribs

To offset the thickness of the selected ribs, you can cut off the meat flap, which runs through the rib’s meaty side. This will also help you while
smoking ribs, as in this way, the ribs can be cooked in a better way. If you want to add some nice flavor to your ribs, then you can use a rub to coat the ribs before smoking. Another thing that you should keep in mind is that, you should cook the ribs slowly and on a proper temperature. Cooking the ribs on 225 to 240 degrees Fahrenheit is a good option for cooking the ribs in a proper way.

Adding some extra flavor

You can also add a touch of flavor with selected hardwood while smoking ribs. You can choose hardwood such as mesquite, hickory, cherry, and even pecan. Make sure that the smoke flow over the ribs for almost three hours. However, if you want to have the ribs quickly and cannot wait, then you can cook for the rest of the time on an electric smoker, gas or charcoal. Now, the main problem that stands in your way is the way to understand that the ribs are fully cooked. Remember that the ribs are best cooked when they are completely tender.

Checking whether they are cooked or not

If you are cooking spare ribs then it will take about six to seven hours for smoking ribs, but if you have selected baby backs, then it will take around five to six hours. This actually depends on the meatiness of the ribs. For checking whether the ribs are tender enough or not, you can prick it with tongs, and if they bend at about ninety degrees, the ribs are done. You can also grab two bones and then pull them apart and if the meat amid them tears, then this means that, the ribs are done.

Saucing the ribs

You can also use sauce while smoking ribs. There are many people who like their ribs to be sauced, so if you are one of them, then remember that you should apply the sauce just thirty to forty-five minutes prior to finishing the ribs. Make sure that you repeat this process repeatedly to get a saucy finish. This will make your ribs even more delicious. Even though there are many ways of cooking the ribs, but you should choose the one that you know properly, or else your ribs can remain uncooked. Just manage the temperature and the time of cooking the ribs.
